This is an important grouping of cards from what is arguably the most coveted basketball card issue, the groundbreaking 1957 Topps offering that – along with the Fleer set four years later – served as the bridge for nearly an entire generation of basketball fans. Along with the Fleer set, it was the only mainstream card set between 1948 and 1969, the result being that almost all of the cards in the set are Rookies; as the company’s inaugural basketball effort, centering would prove to be an issue, and many of the cards in this group carry an off-center designation. The group is mostly Good to Very Good, with some above and below the range. Here’s the breakdown (19): Ex-Mt (1) - No. 1 Clifton Rookie o/c; Excellent (2) – No. 9 o/c and No. 30 Costello Rookie o/c; Very Good (7) – No. 6 Rookie, No. 18 Rookie o/c, No. 27 McCauley Rookie o/c, No. 51 Rookie, No. 53 Rookie o/c and No. 65 Rookie o/c; Good (7) – No. 10 Arizin Rookie m/c, No. 31 Rookie, No. 34 Rookie o/c, No. 35 Rookie, No. 42 Stokes, No. 66 Rookie and No. 79 Rookie o/c; Fair (2) – No. 25 Rookie and No. 57 Rookie.
