In what was the largest issue that Topps had ever produced for a hockey set, the important 1974 Topps Hockey set is presented here in a condition that is nearly unimprovable, a blazing Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint or better monster, with superb color and gloss and centering fairly typical for the era, all highlighted by the coveted “vending bend” that bespeaks so eloquently of uncirculated cardboard. In the listing that follows, Near-Mint to Mint is the default condition; a handful of cards – Nos. 1, 2 and 3, plus 200 and 201 – present in the same fashion as the broader group but have the slightest indentation at the center that is visible only under careful scrutiny. The breakdown of keys and condition anomalies: No. 20 Mikita – Near-Mint, 40 Sittler – Nr-Mt-Plus, 50 Park – Nr-Mt, 54 Checklist – Ex-Mt-Plus, 60 Parent, 100 Orr – Nr-Mt-Plus (mkd), 129 Phil Esposito All-Star, 130 Orr All-Star, 135 Clarke All-Star, 138 Parent All-Star – Nr-Mt, 155 Dryden – Nr-Mt-Plus, 160 Giacomin – Nr-Mt-Plus, 168 McDonald Rookie, 200 Phil Esposito – Nr-Mt, 201 Gilbert – Nr-Mt-Plus, 220 Goldsworthy – Nr-Mt o/c, 232 Lafleur, 246 Ross/Esposito, 248 Norris/Orr – Nr-Mt-Plus m/c and 260 Clarke – Nr-Mt.
