1970s Dan Devine Jacket From “Rudy” Movie and Gifted to Him

Here’s an extraordinary artifact with Notre Dame lineage from Coach Dan Devine and given to legendary alum Rudy Ruettiger, protagonist of the eponymous 1993 feature film. The Kelly Green nylon sideline jacket was given to Ruettiger a couple of years after the iconic moment when Devine put Rudy into the Nov. 8, 1975 game for three plays that were immortalized in the popular film. The jacket resided in Ruettiger’s personal Notre Dame collection until it was given to the consignor. It has the seven-button front in dark green, with stretch-ribbed knit dentist-style collar with two-color five stripes and similar stretch-ribbed knit sleeve and waist cuffs. It boasts a fleece-lined interior, two front pockets and gold interlocking “ND” zig-zag affixed to the left front. “Notre Dame” is arched across the back in gold tackle twill; “Dan Devine” is written in marker on the inner button path near the bottom. An “Alleson” label appears at the collar, along with “XXL” flap tag with fabric content and washing instructions, and “DD” is written in marker alongside.
